Empowering Rock Through Unity
Scarlet Sins is a Canadian all-female hard rock band founded in 2004 by guitarist Cristina Canas and vocalist Sylvia Niewinski. Cristina, a first-generation Colombian-Canadian, and Sylvia, a Polish-born immigrant who moved to Canada as a child, bring a powerful multicultural perspective to their songwriting and sound. Together, they fuse heavy riffs, emotional intensity, and soaring, unforgettable vocals.
From the outset, Scarlet Sins made history. Their 2008 self-titled debut album, produced by Richard Chycki (Rush, Aerosmith), earned multiple Grammy shortlist nods — including Best Rock Album, Best Original Rock Song, and Best Hard Rock Performance — making them the first female Canadian rock band ever shortlisted for the Grammys.
Their electrifying live energy earned them coveted support slots for Mötley Crüe, Buckcherry, and others, as well as a headlining performance at Seattle’s all-female Powerbox Festival alongside trailblazers like Vixen and Doro. Over the years, the band has included Canadian female musicians of Mauritian, Jamaican, and Francophone heritage, reflecting Canada’s rich diversity both onstage and behind the music.
After disbanding in 2009, Scarlet Sins reunited in 2019 and released their explosive comeback single “Legends Never Die” in 2024, once again produced, engineered, and mixed by Richard Chycki. The track affirms their legacy of female empowerment while igniting a new chapter for the band.
With new music on the horizon and their forthcoming album Awakening arriving in early 2026, Scarlet Sins continues to champion women and artists of colour in heavy music. Their upcoming releases explore themes of freedom, truth, unity, and love, marking a bold evolution for one of Canada’s most impactful rock acts.
